OXEN for artspark9

this is the drawing i sent to my second artspark9 partner. it is inspired by a photo my cousin sent me from one of her many world travels and, obviously, i took many liberties with my version.

i also made a different background for this, one i printed out and am currently adding color to with my trusty Copics

i tried to read these two books (photo below) after the "dr. neruda" one. i was soooo bored! they are now for sale on amazon and alibris. i printed out THE SWIMMER and added more white to my paper version. i'm not finished yet, must add color!

illustration friday: atmosphere

i guess i'm cheating again. i drew this and called it "atmosphere" over a year ago. i truly did challenge myself with the word first, and when i typed it into google, i found a photo of this guy. it was a music article, that kind of "atmosphere"

the really cool golf bag at the goodwill

one side was UK, one US. being the consummate european i am, this is the side i love best. and yes, yes, the bag actually WAS freefloating in a pink and blue space. that's how our local goodwill just is

NOTE: i've just been told i am NOT european i am british. well. that's not how the conversation went exactly. actually, it wasn't even a conversation. but being from the uk, apparently, does not make one european. not that i am either of those things really. why do i keep typing?

what's on my desk today

i just finished reading "broken glass park" and i sorta kinda get the buzz, but not entirely. i have begun "dr. neruda's cure for evil" and, while only a short way in, i am enjoying the writing immensely.

you can hardly see the sketch of my first drawing in my new series, entitled "stuff i wanted to but did not buy at the goodwill"

oh! and in the top right corner, you can see one of my postcards. must love vistaprint :)

cage, illo friday, a real cage illo this time

i drew this, man, like 2 or 4 years ago. i'm only posting it now because i feel guilty that i posted my "artificial" illo in the "cage" category - what can i say, i'm a sped.

so i finished the illo friday for artificial. just a little late...

i incorporated the image of dearly, departed leon into it. why not?

ah, a boy and his snake!

i'm, like, stagnant. or something.

i started to draw the "artificial" illo friday. i was basing my drawing on a package of beef jerky and was kinda into it, but then...

so i read "the elementary particles" while the next illo friday was announced: cage. i'm thinking, the worst cage for me is a crappy attitude (i suffer from that frequently). so i photo'd myself sticking out my tongue. no one wants to see that. so i high-contrasted it and started a sketch...

but then. i'm now starting amy hempel's short stories.

that's all i've got.

three oreos and an ode unto them (in 50 words)

aptly, i have saved over the psd file so i only have low res. it's ok. as my 50 word "story" indicates, this oreo is not all i'd hoped it would be...

the oreo tempts me. tasty. small. not fulfilling, not meant to be. cookies are merely snacks. why expect this to satisfy my hunger? yet i'm always strangely hopeful. i want the morsel to be more. i really should know better. i should expect less. a cookie is only ever itself.

meh. not my fave. but i did eat 9 chocolate cream oreos while coloring this.

i ate nothing while coloring this. but eeew, looks moldy. i will simplify tomorrow, and post my 50 word ode to oreo as well.
