i received two (2!) amazing items in the mail last week

in chronological order of arrival:

1. a book of amazing short stories

this book hooked me with the funky giraffe cover and the hilarious title, "punishing ugly children." but the writing itself won me over. mr. berger is a blogger i have long admired, and i ordered the book directly from him so he even signed it for me:

please visit his blog, red-handed dot blogspot dot com and check out his work. and seriously contact him if you are a lover of clever and well-written short stories, as these 20 will not disappoint.

2. a faaaaaaaabulous art print

i stole this pic from the artist's blog because i haven't framed mine yet but i want to make it look exactly! like! this! rebekah leigh marshall dot blogspot dot com is where you can follow her work, i'm drooling over her current horse and pony drawings. the print quality, by the way, is EXCELLENT and rebekah is all about the swap, one of the many reasons i love her so xxx

vomitousness

this was initially an airplane painting. then i gessoed it and created a torn tissue paper "landscape." then, still not satisfied, i took a printout of my guitar (see below), stamped bananas all over it, sliced it up, added some torn candy bar wrappers and...

well. vomitous. next step? cutting canvas into smaller bits and maybe using as backgrounds for some drawings. maybe. either that or the trash

i just cannot read this book

it opens thusly: "The sweat wis lashing oafay Sick Boy; he wis trembling. Ah wis jist sitting thair, focusing oan the telly, tryin no tae notice the cunt. He wis bringing me doon. Ah tried tae keep ma attention oan the Jean-Claude Van Damme video."

yes, i understand what is being said. actually, that paragraph was not so bad... but i wasn't at all sure what this bit meant: "Aw, ah sais. Ah wanted the radge tae jist fuck off ootay ma visage..."

ok, it's making more sense when i type what i read. but that's not practical, is it? i'm sorry, critically acclaimed book, but you have to go

books since the last time blah blah

don't you feel better now?

Roger Waters performing The Wall in Philly

i cannot upload any more photos (blogspot!!!) but trust me, it was a visual feast. incredible. it's probably on youtube like a hundred times if you want to see more. the music was just amazing, and this album... well, it has always meant a lot to me. seeing and hearing Roger Waters perform it was, i'm sure, a once in a lifetime chance for me. rumor had it David Gilmore might be popping in, but he didn't. maybe the thursday show?

spent

firstly, simplification is clearly not a concept i grasp.

this is a rendering of a small ceramic lemon pitcher, possibly even a creamer. i have a collection of ceramic fruit tableware. i have spent hours trolling local thrift shops and yard sales to find my pieces.

but i'm over it.

so this lemon, and the rasperry mug, and the apple cookie jar, and all the rest of it, are going to be donated to the goodwill tomorrow.

mid-century modern. that's where it's at.

simplified slightly

ok. today i am going to start a new drawing, and try really really really hard to simply keep it simple. gah!
